Catching Children Before They Fail…

LDAA’s Right to Read Goals:

  • Build Teacher Knowledge. All educators have the capacity to provide effective core literacy instruction and intervention to children at risk for reading problems.

  • Assess Students’ Literacy Skills. Every child in kindergarten and grade one is screened for potential reading and spelling difficulties.

  • Support Students At-Risk. Every child at potential risk for reading problems is provided with support at the earlier possible stage in their educational journey.

Right to Read Course:
Literacy Assessment Certificate (LAC) Course

You will have access to the webinars for a period of four months, starting from the date of your registration.

The Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta is pleased to offer a Right to Read course to educators: Literacy Assessment Certificate (LAC)

The Literacy Assessment Certificate course guides educators how to administer the Assessment of Foundational Reading Skills (AFRS) tool to assess and interpret students’ word recognition skills and provide effective literacy instruction to all the students in their class.

Part 1, Teaching Foundational Literacy Skills, provides educators with evidence-based information about teaching foundational literacy skills, effective instructional strategies, activities to implement with your students, and useful resources.

Part 2, Assessment of Foundational Reading Skills (AFRS), guides educators how to administer the Assessment of Foundational Reading Skills (AFRS) tool to assess students’ phonological awareness and phonics skills and then interpret student scores to inform instructional planning for individual, small group, and/or classroom lessons.

Upon completion of this Literacy Assessment Certificate course, educators will be certified to administer the Assessment of Foundational Reading Skills (AFRS) tool to students.
