Catching Children Before They Fail…

Right to Read Goals
Letters to Literacy: A Toolkit for Homeschool Parents & Tutors. K-Gr. 3

The Letters to Literacy Toolkit equips you with a solid understanding of how to teach your children (students) foundational skills needed to learn to read and spell. It includes practical strategies, activities, and resources that you can use with children in Kindergarten through Grade 3 and older struggling students. The emphasis of this course is on teaching word recognition skills.
The Letters to Literacy Toolkit is intended for homeschool parents and tutors in private or community practice.
We use the terms ‘teacher’, ‘instructor’, ‘student’, and ‘classroom’ throughout this course with the understanding that you and your child or student are assuming these important roles, and your goal is to create an enriching learning environment for them, regardless of the setting. The fact that you are registered for this course says much about your commitment. You take your role very seriously and you want your child to thrive in the learning environment you are providing, so we are sharing in-depth information with you. Teaching Reading IS rocket science and you need to be well-equipped to teach it. We know you are up to this very important challenge!
What is LITERACY?
The word, ‘literacy’ is an umbrella term that is defined as the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that lets us communicate effectively and make sense of the world.
Why is LITERACY so important?
“Literacy is the foundation upon which we learn and grow. Building literacy skills in children is one of the most effective ways to ensure they can achieve their full potential in school and throughout life.” Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation
